21st International Football Tournament IPA Poznań 2019

The 21st edition of the International Football Tournament of IPA Poznań took place from 22-25 August 2019. This year, 15 law enforcement teams from the Police, Military Counterintelligence Service, Municipal Police, Fire Brigade and Penitentiary Service from Poland, as well as 4 foreign teams from Cyprus (Paphos), Hungary (Gyöngyös) and Ukraine (Kiev and Kharkov), participated.

This year’s tournament was held under the honorary patronage of the Greater Poland Provincial Police Commander, The Marshal of the Greater Poland Province, the Poznań Starost, the Mayor of the City of Poznán, and the President of the IPA Polish Section. After the introduction of the teams and listening to the national anthems of Poland, Cyprus, Hungary and Ukraine, as well as the IPA anthem, the matches started simultaneously on two playing fields.

After two days of matches, the teams of IPA Poznań and IPA Gostyń advanced to the final. The match for 3rd place was played between the teams of the Convoy Department of the Provincial Police HQ in Poznań and IPA Region Mielec, which was won by the Convoy Department on penalty kicks in extra time. Before the match for 3rd place, a friendship match was played between the IPA Poznań ladies’ team and a team consisting of the representatives of the tournament.

The final, which was played in 30 degrees heat, was won by the hosts of the tournament – the Region IPA Poznań Team, who managed to beat the IPA Gostyń Team 3:0, and therewith winning the Champion’s Trophy.

In the evening, a celebratory barbeque was held, during which the President of the Polish Section, Fryderyk Orepuk, and selected guests presented the trophies and diplomas to all participating teams. The three winning teams were honoured with medals and prizes. In addition, the President handed a t-shirt to the team of IPA Poznań which had been donated by the Polish International and FC Napoli player, Jacek Zieliński. Trophies and prizes were also handed to the top goal scorer of the tournament, the best goalkeeper, the oldest player, and the youngest player.

The team of IPA Paphos from Cyprus was awarded the Fair Play Trophy, donated by the Head of the Polish Olympic Committee.

During the barbeque, the results were discussed as well as the plans for the next Tournament in Poznań in 2020.
