IPA Sri Lanka Support during the Covid-19 Pandemic: Donation of Gloves to the Sri Lankan Police Force

During the lockdown period, the Sri Lankan Police was actively engaged in supporting the health sectors and other authorities with a view to preventing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Due to the contribution of  the Sri Lankan Police, other concerned authorities and the timely action initiated and monitored by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, the spread of the virus was well prevented and kept under control, which enabled controlling the situation and saving the lives of Sri Lankan citizens, limiting the death toll to 11 and affected numbers to 2042.

The Sri Lankan Police actively participated and supported the sanitarian work to reduce and minimise the spread of the pandemic through a public awareness programme, an enforcement mechanism, and ensuring public order and sterilisation programmes countrywide. With the aim of supporting their services and protecting lives, IPA Sri Lanka donated 50,000 protective gloves at a value of Rs. 2.2 million, with the support of Lalan Rubber (Pvt) Ltd., for protection and use while on duty.

The donation was received by the Mr. C.D. Wickramaratne, Acting Inspector General of Police on 20.04.2020 at the Police Headquarters, Colombo 01, and was attended by the NSG and the ANSG, Travel Secretary and IPA working staff.
